More sturdy than RML390 flat foot power rack
Many may claim the half section is to small and there is a bottom crossmember in the way for squats but the other factors involved make the half rack superior to the RML 390 flat foot power rack. This half rack is underrated and I give 5 stars. First the 17” in between the half compartment is enough room for bench press and some specialty squat bars. But the main quality benefit is the structure. The back uprights are 70” with the shorter hight making things more stable than full hight uprights. The shorter side crossmembers create greater stability than full length ones. The large base cross member gives much more stability than one at the top. The pull up bar adds stability and the smaller distance between 70” uprights and higher uprights with pull-up bar gives more stability. Not only is the half rack much more sturdy, there is more overall space than RML 390. Spotter arms are 20” but your back is free so it is very spacious. Then, the half compartment is 17” in between posts giving 37” of space with an open area at the back vrs 30” space distance of cage. I upgraded my Y2 yolk and asked for a separate bottom crossmember which was easy to get. I got extra monster light j cups. The half space is also great for band assisted pull-ups. People all say the RML 390 is sturdy but you can take any stand up rack and shake it and it will have some give. In the end I’m sure the RML390 is a great power rack but I wanted to compare the design to show how the half rack is underrated. It is super sturdy and is very spacious with spotter arms and can even fit a separate bench press area. 5 stars for me.

SML-1 converted to HR-2
I already had the Rogue SML-1 squat stand with the 70" uprights. I converted it to the HR-2 by swapping the 70" uprights to the back and the HR-2 90" uprights on the front. I did have to pay separately for the pull-up bar. Also grabbed the Matador Lite. The main reason I converted my SML-1 to HR-2 is that I wanted a legit pull-up bar and to reduce the shifting and swaying between the SML-1 uprights.

Holds down my rack
I have a TRX attached to the pull up bar of my SML-2 and sometimes the rack would come forward. Scary. So I just went for this as a reason of safety and it's rock solid. Some people talk about adding a cross member. Personally I find it fine without it.

Great addition to my SML-1
I added this to my SML-1 Half Rack for additional storage and rigidity. I put a stabilizer cross-member across the back uprights, and this thing is a tank! No more swaying from side to side. It also helps keep the uprights at 43". Before the uprights would be wider than 43" and make reracking difficult. The short post bumper storage works great, and I added some storage hooks for bands. Completely satisfied with this and all my other Rogue equipment

Great way to spread out the cost
This is a super slick way to start small with a squat rack and build to something resembling a full rack. A squat rack will totally do what you need it to when you add a bench. I started running into space and stability issues when I tried using bands attached to my squat rack. Once I added the half rack conversion, I was able to add plate storage which freed up more space and stabilized the rack (I know I should probs bolt it to the deck or the wall, buuuut). The kit is a great way to spread out the cost and only get what you need, when you need it.
